Del Norte
Available in Soprano & Concert sizes

This special series was instigated by a certain Mike Selfridge. I’d done some guitar repair for Mike previously, obviously he was a man of taste. One day he calls to tell me that he’d seen me written up for my ukes and “gosh, could I make one for him? I’ve got this wood...” Well that started it! That “wood” he was talking about turned out to be some 80 year old BIRDSEYE & FLAME REDWOOD, that was left over from his house that was built in 1920.
Now ... I’ve seen wood and I’ve seen wood... but I ain’t seen that... Stunning... and oh sooooooooo difficult to bend and work with. As I now tell it, “he might as well have asked me to make him a uke from angel wings and fairy dust...” But I was determined to prevail, and I’m very proud of the results.
I combined these surreal redwoods with spruce braces from the 1860’s, the bridgeplate is made from wood that came from William Randolph Hearts' last surviving yacht built in 1929. Together these fine and oh so rare woods yield a feast for the eyes and ears... that, dare I say, remain unparalleled in the modern world!
This particular issue is extremely limited and decidedly not for the faint of heart!
Keep on the lookout for further “special projects.
